We believe the training we give is the best available and we are the only school able to cover all tests and exams in house.

THE PRIVATE PILOT'S LICENCE

The licence privileges allow you to fly all over  the world and add further ratings to your licence, allowing flight at night and on instruments. The PPL course consists of a minimum of 45 hours flight training of which 25 hours must be flown dual (with a qualified instructor).  10 hours must be flown solo. At the end of the course, there is a final test called a License Skill Test, which covers all aspects of training. In addition to the airborne training, there are 7 multiple choice ground examinations and an oral examination for the issue of a Radiotelephony Operators Licence.

You can spread your training over several months or years, or alternatively you can do a intensive training course of a few weeks.

NATIONAL PRIVATE PILOT'S LICENCE

The NPPL was designed to meet the requirements of the recreational flyer. A pilot holding a UK NPPL may not fly outside the UK, add further ratings to their licence or carry more than 3 passengers. Only aircraft weighing under 2,000kg may be flown with a UK NPPL. The course consists of a minimum of 32 hours' flight training, of which 22 hours must be flown dual and 10 hours must be flown solo. The student must pass two flight tests, the Navigation Flight Test and a General Flight Test.

The same ground examinations apply as for the PPL however the medical requirements are less stringent.

NIGHT QUALIFICATION

A five hour dual flying course, plus ground school is all that is required to enable you to fly at night.
Ten hours as pilot in command after obtaining your PPL is required before starting the course.

IMC RATING

The course consists of a minimum of fifteen hours' flying training plus ground school.
Twenty five hours of flying experience after obtaining your PPL (of which ten hours must be as pilot in command) are required before starting the course.
The rating is designed to give a pilot the necessary skills to fly in cloud and undertake instrument approaches to return to an airfield without losing spatial awareness.
It is important to understand that the IMC rating does not constitute a full Instrument Rating, but it greatly enhances both

safety and the pilot’s situational awareness and flying skills.
The IMC rating is only valid inside UK airspace.

PILOT'S COMPANION COURSE

As many of our members share their enjoyment of flying with their partners and other members of family, we have decided to offer a Pilot's Companion course. The course consists of 5 hours' dual flying tuition: this will cover  the basic controls of the aircraft; turns and descents to follow ATC instructions; basic use of the radio and instruments; approach and landing; approx

4 hours of ground tuition; all of this will culminate in a practice emergency and landing into an airfield. The overall aim is to equip the student with sufficient knowledge and ability so that, in an emergency, that person could take over control of the aircraft and land safely. The student would fly from the right hand seat that they would normally occupy. The course can be undertaken on either the PA38 or PA28 aircraft.

RADIO TELEPHONY LICENCE

Our Radio instructor will assess your current level of ability and tailor a course of instruction to suit your needs.  Instruction will include the use of a radio simulator at the school.

When taken separately from a PPL course a pass in the Communications written exam may be required.
